Heart of the Earth's Position On Iraq |
|
Heart of the Earth was opposed to the war against Iraq and deplores the loss of human life and the disastrous environmental, human and social impact that resulted from this war. We support global treaties and negotiation to resolve disputes and to promote human rights, environmental protection, and sustainable societies. One of the major motivations for the war with Iraq is the need to safeguard access to oil in the Middle East. Heart of the Earth believes that solving the problem of oil dependency depends on increasing reliance on environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources. National security can be better served by promoting sustainable livelihoods and communities, rather than proliferating the buildup of the military and provoking world crises and armed conflicts. |
