Earth Spirit Walk

A Conversation With Nature

Location: Leon Sinks

7 miles south of Tallahassee on U.S. Hwy. 319

The Earth Spirit Walk is a unique way to re-connect with the Earth. It’s not a hike; it’s not a time to be overwhelmed learning the plants and animals of the area. It is a chance to connect to nature in a new way: through body, mind, and spirit. A mix of short walks, solo time for observing and reflecting, and short talks with fellow walkers gives you the opportunity to bond with nature. And to quiet your busy self so you may hear the messages whispered by your true self and nature. Leave the walk re-inspired by your sacred connection to fellow humans and all creatures of the Earth community and committed to live a better, happier life. Who knows, you may even be ready to take on the hectic activities of the holiday season. [More]

Teach-In On the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA)

Quakers Meeting House

2001 S. Magnolia Drive

Sponsored by Heart of the Earth

Hosted by Tallahassee Friends Meeting Religious Society of Friends

An informal teach-in about the negotiating process and potential effects of the FTAA. We will discuss education and anti-FTAA organizing that is taking place on a national and state level, and in our own community. The goal of the teach-in is to create a starting place for community dialogue about trade issues, to build communication and coalition between community groups.

The Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) is a trade agreement that is currently being negotiated, which would expand corporate rights and challenge countries' abilities to enforce national labor rights and environmental regulations. An expansion of NAFTA, the FTAA would include all countries in the Americas excluding Cuba. The FTAA is being negotiated in secret, negotiations open only to trade officials and representatives of 500 transnational corporations. During the 3rd week of November, 2003, trade officials and corporate reps. will convene in Miami for an FTAA ministerial. The ministerial will be protested by thousands in Miami and across the Hemisphere.

Directions: If coming from downtown Tallahassee, follow Magnolia Drive south behind the New Leaf-Ross Shopping center. The meeting house, at 2001 S. Magnolia Drive will be on your left, about a mile south of the Apalachee Pkwy. intersection.
